Entrepreneurship in the Music Industry Among Francophone Minority Communities in Canada
This study provides an overview of entrepreneurship among ANIM members, through the stories of 24 music industry companies that provide services to artists: artist management, booking agencies, record labels, strategic consulting, etc. It reveals that these companies stand out for their versatility in adapting to the realities of career development outside Quebec. Motivated by the influence of Francophone communities and driven by collaboration and mutual support within their network, these companies operate in a business environment also marked by geographic isolation, a lack of infrastructure, and the exodus of talent. These characteristics foster entrepreneurial practices that are innovative compared to traditional industrial models, as well as a high degree of adaptability, hence the need to support these businesses in a sustainable manner and to take local specificities into account.
